about
Multuggerah (c. 1820–1846) was an Aboriginal warrior, resistance leader, and headman. His homeland in South East Queensland is claimed by the Yugara (Jagera/Yaggera), western Wakka Wakka, Giabal (Gitabal/Kitabal), and other Aboriginal language groups. Multuggerah is credited with uniting local clans and leading them to victory in The Battle of One Tree Hill (Mount Tabletop) where they decisively defeated a convoy of settlers by taking up strategic positions and pelting them with rocks and boulders. The squatters retreated to await the arrival of a police contingent, which determined that the situation was too dangerous to engage in. The battle was part of the "Frontier Wars" which raged in this region for over seven years.
